Swan
the sign said
"public water supply
do not feed
the waterfowl"
but she was
kneeling
at the edge
of the pond
with a
bag of bread
anyway
this swan is sick
she told me
he can
no longer
see out
of his
left eye
because
the tumor
is so large
another cob
attacked him
and drove him
from the
big pond
if I report it
they'll just
euthanize him
and his mate
will suffer
terribly
it's the water
I know
it's the water
carcinogens
I can see
the suds
floating
down the
river
later
a shaman
who seems
to know
these things
diagnosed
an abscess
caused by
cob attacks
don't jump
to conclusions
she told me
pray
that nature
intervenes
somehow
to heal it
now
I wonder
where
or whether
there are
vets for
swans
available
anywhere
