I'm having a bit of trouble with my restart button - the internal one that is. Although I imagine I must have things to write about, I can't think what they are, or they seem too complicated, like comparing and contrasting Metallica: Some Kind of Monster and DeLovely; Cole Porter , Lars Ulrich or James Hefield , and their respective creative processes. .
Oh well, I will just keep pumping out the triangles, until I run out of them -- then maybe switch to sunrises and flowers.
Photo note: Under the awning at a diner. When you're stalking triangles you have to look up and stay on your toes .
Posted by Dakota at August 17, 2004 06:37 AMWelcome back! When I clicked on "internal", however, my computer went crazy! Flash, flash, flash, zip, zip, zip. . . I think it must have ADD or something. . . Quick, call Dr. Mate!
I don't know if I ever updated you on my so-called writer's block. I say so-called because I most definitely broke out of it, but in another area entirely; I am now working on a book-length poem, not another novel, as per my (and everyone else's) expectations. I'm engrossed in this, which, I tell myself, is what matters, but some part of me wishes I knew for sure if this will turn out to be publishable, or for my eyes/mind only.
Anyway, I'm definitely not stuck any more. I may have more news shortly (but can't breathe a word of it now. . .)

Posted by: margaret gunning at August 18, 2004 04:16 PMHey Margaret, welcome back yourself! In more ways than one.
I am sorry for the frenzy that "internal" caused your computer - My diagnosis is that it has a sensitive stomach, not ADD at all. (Never fear, Dr. M, I think, is certified in internal medicine) That clickie is a particularly gruesome collection of dissected non-mammalian digestive organs which may have caused a problem in a system that is focused primarily on poetry for the moment.
An epic! What wonderful news. I am so pleased that "it" is flowing again. Perhaps it is coming out in poetry, as way around the publish pressure.
Not to spook you or anything but there are great book length poems that have been published-- keep in mind "The Iliad", and some wonderful novels with epic poems at the core, Nabakov's "Pale Fire" and A.S. Byatt 's "Possession" are the most retrievable.
Isn't this creative process stuff interesting?
Best D
